My name is Prince Nguanyi Wenslous Mbonwoh, founder of AquaFuture Cameroon, a youth-led sustainable aquaculture initiative focused on creating opportunities through climate-smart fish farming. Across many communities in Cameroon, young people face limited employment opportunities, while families continue to experience challenges related to food security, nutrition, and access to affordable sources of protein. At the same time, climate change is affecting livelihoods, agriculture, and natural resources. I believe sustainable aquaculture can provide a practical solution by strengthening community resilience and creating new economic opportunities. AquaFuture Cameroon is being developed in the South West Region of Cameroon, where available land and water resources will serve as the foundation for our pilot fish farming project. Our goal is to establish an environmentally responsible aquaculture system producing quality fish such as catfish and tilapia while promoting youth participation, skills development, and inclusive economic growth. We are raising funds to transform available land into a productive and climate-resilient aquaculture site. The funds will support land preparation, construction of fish ponds, installation of a sustainable water pumping system, purchase of quality fingerlings, fish feed, safety equipment, and basic farming tools. Beyond fish production, AquaFuture Cameroon aims to empower young people and women through training, employment opportunities, and participation in sustainable agricultural activities. The project promotes gender equality by encouraging equal involvement and access to opportunities within the aquaculture value chain. The initiative also seeks to protect and restore the environment by promoting responsible water management, sustainable farming practices, and reduced pressure on natural fish resources.
